The ambience, music, ethnicity and captivating voice of Bollywood playback singer Javed Ali created a mystical aura as he performed some of his best songs, including a few from the film Rockstar.

At midnight, Mr. Ali hit all the right notes with the audience swaying and clapping to his music.

Mr. Ali was in the historic city of Vijayapura for the threeday Navaraspur Utsav that commenced on Friday.

Before Mr. Ali took to the stage, a jugalbandi was performed by veteran Mohan Veena player and Grammy award winner Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt and Manjunath Mysore.

The traditional art forms of India too had their share as artistes of Manipur displayed Manipuri dance at Sangeet Mahal, while performers from Jammu and Kashmir presented a dance in their traditional attire at Gol Gumbaz.

Shehnayi, saxophone and tabala recitals by various artistes provided an added attraction to the events at Sangeet Mahal and Gol Gumbaz, where the utsav is being held.

While music and dance took centre stage at these historic monuments, Mushaera, the Urdu poetry event at Gagan Mahal, drew literary lovers to the ancient monument.

Veteran poets of the country had converged to present some of their finest works in Urdu, considered one of the “sweetest” languages of the world. Though the poetry session went on till 3 a.m., the audience remained glued to the stage, oblivious of the time.

The first day of Navaraspur Utsav, which is being held in the city after four years, succeeded in drawing out lovers of music, art, literature and culture.
