The inauguration of the 6.7-km Reach I of Namma Metro is likely to be delayed again as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had agreed to dedicate the service to Bangaloreans, will not be in the country between September 21 and 27 as he is visiting New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly meeting.

Originally, the Union Urban Development Ministry, which is funding the project, had sought Dr. Singh's nod for inaugurating the project on September 26. Even the Karnataka Government had agreed to the date.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), who inspected the project for clearance had asked Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) to carry out some changes relating to train operation.

The clearance had been given pending completion of the work which involves making changes in the software of the operation system, sources said. As the work involved the safety and security of the train operation and passengers, every effort would be made to fulfil the recommendations of the CRS before plying the trains, they added.

Reach I, between Byappanahalli and Mahatma Gandhi Road, is part of Phase-I of Namma Metro.
