In a major breakthrough in the sensational murder of Sub-Inspector S. Jagadish in Nelamangala, the suspected killers were picked up from a train at Nagpur Railway Station on Monday evening. A special team from rural Bengaluru left for the city in Maharashtra to take custody of the duo.
B. Ramesh, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru (rural), told The Hindu that Madhu and Harish Babu were picked up from the Andhra Pradesh Express around 4 p.m. at Nagpur railway station. “The duo was on the run after the murder. We reached Hyderabad on Monday morning following specific information that the men were hiding there. However, they managed to slip away minutes before we reached the lodge they were holed up in,” Ramesh added.
On learning that the suspects had boarded the AP Express bound for New Delhi, the special investigating team alerted the Crime Branch of the Nagpur police and submitted photographs of the duo even as the train was 40 km away from the city.
“The Nagpur police assembled a team along, with the railway police, and waited. As soon as the train arrived, they got in and meticulously combed the coaches for nearly 30 minutes before they pinned down Madhu and Harish,” Ramesh said. The duo will be brought to Karnataka after the State police team obtains a transit warrant. Sub-Inspector Jagadish of Doddaballapur Town Police Station in Bengaluru Rural was stabbed to death on Friday by two men whom he was trying to nab in connection with a burglary case.
