MP demands audit by CAG of BBMP funds

October 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - Bengaluru:

Alleging that funds collected as tax by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) were not being used for betterment of the city, MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar has asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to institute an audit into the civic body’s finances by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

In a letter to the CM, he asked for an audit from 2010 into the performance of over 900 accounts being operated in private and public sector banks. He accused officials of mismanaging and misusing hundreds of crores of rupees.

“Such a massive fraud was made possible by the failure of the government to introduce mandatory accounting standards such as National Municipal Accounting Manual or the Karnataka Municipal Accounting and Budget Rules,” he said.
