Motor vehicle inspector booked

Lokayukta police recently booked a motor vehicle inspector for taking a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from the driver of a Kerala registered vehicle for non-payment of inter-State vehicle tax.

Vijimon was flagged down by B. Tippeswamy, motor vehicle inspector with Electronic City RTO, on October 13 and found that the inter-State vehicle tax had not been paid. Rules mandate that the inspector had to either seize the vehicle or give a receipt after collecting the tax in full.

When Vijimon said that he did not have enough money to pay the tax in full, the inspector took Rs. 20,000 but did not issue a receipt, which amounted to a bribe.

Following a complaint by Vijimon, Lokayukta cops on Thursday raided the Electronic City RTO and the house of B. Tippeswamy.

On recovering crucial documents, they registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
