Model code: Bengaluru issues cannot be discussed in legislature

June 25, 2015 11:52 pm | Updated April 03, 2016 05:24 am IST - BENGALURU:

The enforcement of the model code of conduct in the wake of the announcement of elections to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to come in the way of discussions related to Bengaluru in the ensuing monsoon session of the State legislature.

Disclosing this to reporters on Thursday, Legislative Council Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy said discussion on issues related to the development of Bengaluru would not be allowed in the forthcoming session as the government is not supposed to make any new announcements for the city.

“We will screen the questions and other issues that members plan to raise in the session to ensure that allowing them would not violate the model code of conduct,” he said. However, any emergency issues, or those related to law and order could be taken up for discussion in such a way that there is no violation of the model code of conduct during the course of the discussion, he said.
