Enraged public beat up men who reportedly barged into the house of a neighbour and tried to rape her over a trivial row in Bengaluru's Hebbagodi on Wednesday.

The accused were tied to a tree and beaten up before handing over to the police.

The accused have been identified as Somanath (22) and Srikanth (24) from Bidar. They have been working as house-keepers in a private company in Electronic City and living in a rented house in Maragindanahalli, Hebbagodi.

A senior police officer said that on Tuesday evening, when the victim was alone at home Somanath and his friend Srikanth barged into her house to rape the victim. The victim resisted and raised an alarm for help following which the accused tried to kill her by attacking with a wooden log. The house owner heard her screaming and rushed for help but the accused managed to escape.

According to the police, Somanath and Srikanth had a quarrel with the victim after which, the two decided to take a revenge. As per the plan, the accused barged into the victims house at around 8.30 p.m. after noticing that she was alone at home while her husband had gone out.

They locked the door from outside and entered by breaking the roof. The duo pounced on her and dragged her before attempting to rape her. The victim raised an alarm for help prompting her landlord to come to her rescue.

The accused, who did not return the whole night, returned on Wednesday morning to collect their belongings when the residents, who learnt about the incident, caught and tied them to a tree and thrashed them before handing over to the Hebbagodi police.

The police have taken up a case based on the complaint and are investigating further.
