With doctors’ associations from across the country supporting their cause, members of the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) Resident Doctors’ Association further intensified their agitation on Wednesday, the fifth day.

Resident Doctors’ Association of the All- India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, and Federation of Residents’ Doctors Association, India, (FORDA) apart from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has extended support to the protesting doctors.

These associations have written to the Medical Education and Health Ministers — C.N. Aswath Narayan and B. Sriramulu — demanding the arrest of KRV members and adequate security for the doctors.

Meanwhile, City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao and retired judge K.L. Manjunath visited the venue of the protest and tried to persuade them to withdraw the strike.

He promised them necessary security and legal action against the accused.

“The police have filed an FIR in this regard and investigation is on. It is up to the investigating officer to proceed with the case based on the evidence,” he told them. However, they refused to relent.

The resident doctors conducted a blood and eye donation drive as part of their protest on Wednesday.
