Director of the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) Pushpa Sarkar has been transferred to the Koppal Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS).

The government decision comes following the Karnataka Lokayukta’s report on the alleged irregularities in purchase of medicines. However, the Karnataka High Court has stayed the transfer.

Dr. Sarkar has been posted as head of the Biochemistry Department of KIMS. M.G. Prakash, head, Medicine, has been appointed Director of MIMS.

K.M. Shivakumar, Superintendent of MIMS, has been posted as head of Medicine, Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences.

G. Shivakumar of MIMS has bean appointed Superintendent in the place of Dr. K.M. Shivakumar.

Mudduranganath, senior pharmacist, MIMS, Mandya, has been transferred to the Health and Family Welfare Department.

Stayed

Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court on Friday evening stayed the transfer of Dr. Sarkar.

She claimed in the petition that the government had no power to remove the Director and it was only the governing council of MIMS that had the power to do so, and only after holding a departmental probe in terms of the regulations.

‘Complaint baseless’

She also pointed out that the complaint of mismanagement in procurement of medicines was dismissed as “baseless” by the Department of Health and Family Welfare on conducting a preliminary inquiry.

And the report of the Lokayukta, which was also on the same complaint, was submitted without issuing notice to her, she claimed in the petition.

She also pointed out that the government had no authority to take post facto approval from the governing council for conducting an inquiry or transferring her from the post.
