Maraa event on the theme of resistance

October 09, 2014 03:58 pm | Updated May 23, 2016 03:52 pm IST - BANGALORE:

Maraa, a Bangalore-based art collective, which organises “October Jam” every year, is organising the event this year around the theme of “Horaata” (meaning “struggle” in Kannada).

The jam this year will showcase arts which have sprung around the theme of resistance.

Maraa has planned two events over this weekend on Saturday and Sunday between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The events are titled “Trespassers will not be prosecuted” which will involve people walking from Kodihalli to Ulsoor. The event on Sunday is a poetry reading session titled “Steel nibs are sprouting.” The venue for the Sunday event is Alternative Law Forum, Infantry Road, Shivajinagar.

According to Shruthi Menon, Coordinator of Maraa, the event on Saturday is a way to remember spaces that have drastically transformed in the city over the year and a symbolic reclaiming. At a time when safe spaces are marked out and surveillance is regarded key to safety, the walk could provoke different notions on safety and risk.

“Steel Nibs are Sprouting” is an invitation to share poetry that captures memories and experiences of resistance, struggle and dissent. “Participants can bring original work, or share poets written by other poets,” she said.

There will other events through the month. For details log into maraa.in.
