Actor, comedienne and singer Manorama, who passed away on Saturday, had acted in seven Kannada films and won the hearts of many.

Veteran actors Srinath and Shivaram described her as a “complete actor”.

Her performance in Hennu Samsarada Kannu (1975), Devaragudi (1975), Ninagagi Naau (1975), Geddavalu Naane (1977), Devara Duddu (1977), Premanubandha (1981) and Preethiye Nanna Daiva (1991) was widely appreciated.

Shivaram, who acted with Manorama in three films, said: “I first met her when my brother made Madras to Pondicherry . Manorama and I were specially paired in Kattila Thottila , the remake of Kannada movie Naa Mechida Hudugi by Aroor Pattabhi. Though she did not know the language, she used to understand the essence of the scene and dialogue before performing.”

Srinath acted with her in Hennu Samsarada Kannu , Premanubandha and Ninagai Naanu .

He said success never affected her personality. Even after acting in over a thousand movies, never did she throw tantrums during the shoot.

“I don’t want to brand her as a comedienne. She was a complete artiste and it would be difficult for others to match her in terms of acting. She was a model for other artistes,” he said.

Basavaraj, who cinematographed Geddavalu Naane , said: “Even though she did not know the language, she used to understand the content and meaning of the words before performing before camera.”

Manorama had also sung for Geddavalu Naane .
