Finally some relief for communities living around the Mandur landfill: the waste processing unit set up by Organic Waste India Pvt. Ltd. is ready for trial runs.
On Monday, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner M. Lakshminarayan inspected the landfill and the unit, which has a capacity to process 300 tonnes of waste a day.
He met community leaders and assured them that their problems were likely to reduce once the unit started processing the tonnes of accumulated waste.
He promised to improve roads around the landfill, hold regular health camps and spray chemicals to tackle the mosquito menace, but this is something the residents have heard many times before, with little being done.
