The RMC Yard police on Thursday arrested a 45-year-old man from Mysuru for allegedly marrying four women who had put up their profiles on matrimonial sites. It was one of his wives — a software engineer from Bengaluru — who alerted the police.

“Ganesh, a resident of Saraswathipuram in Mysuru, uploaded his profile on matrimonial sites to target divorced or widowed women who were wealthy. He posed as a successful businessman and married them,” said a police officer. Ganesh would allegedly move in with every wife, live with them for a while and spend as much of their money as he could, and later disappear. He would live off them, borrow money and accept expensive gifts. After a couple of months, he would leave them to find another ‘wife’.

He married four women from across Karnataka. According to the police, most of the victims did not register a complaint as they were embarrassed.

His luck ran out when he married a widowed software engineer from Bengaluru who, suspecting that something was amiss, began to verify his documents. She ran a background check and learned that he had two wives from previous marriages. When she confronted Ganesh with the evidence, he divorced her and within two months, lured and married another woman.

Based on the Bengaluru woman’s complaint, RMC Yard police tracked him down and arrested him. “He confessed to being a high school dropout who is jobless. He has also cheated many elderly and gullible women with money, promising to get them bank loans,” the officer said.
