A man posing as the owner of a private company allegedly duped a teacher of ₹12 lakh after promising to get him a business deal, which he claimed could fetch a monthly rental of ₹30 lakh. The Madiwala police have taken up a cheating case against the accused.
Sunil Mathan, a resident of Teachers Colony in Koramangala, in his complaint, said the accused, who identified himself as Anil Rai, approached him with a business proposition. Claiming to be the owner of a telecom company, the accused offered to set up a mobile transmission tower on the vacant land belonging to the teacher and also gave a post-dated cheque for ₹ 30 lakh.
The accused later asked Sunil to pay ₹12 lakh as he had to get approvals from various departments for the installation of the tower.
Cheque bounces
Excited about getting the cheque, Sunil transferred the amount last year and waited for the installation of the tower. However, when he did not receive any communication from the accused, he tried to encash the cheque, which, however, bounced because of insufficient funds.
His efforts to contact the accused went in vain. After realising that he has been duped, Sunil filed a police complaint on Friday.
