The South East cyber crime police on Sunday arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly blackmailing a woman with private photos. Acting on a complaint by the woman, the police arrested the accused, identified as Nandish, under various sections of the IT Act and for criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code.

In her complaint, the victim, who is around 25 years old, said that she was living with a male friend. His family, however, opposed the relationship and allegedly started spreading rumours about her, and allegedly hired Nandish to blackmail her.

The accused was able to access private and intimate photos and sent them to her father. He also threatened to circulate the photos on social media if she did not end the relationship. The police are investigating to ascertain if more people were involved.
