A 34-year-old electrician died after he fell into an open drain at Srinivasanagar on Saturday evening. The deceased, Shyam Prasad, who lived in the area was returning from a local bar, according to the police.

The police said the incident occurred around 9.30 p.m. Prasad and his friend Gururaj parted ways after they left the bar where they had reportedly consumed alcohol.

“While crossing the drain, Prasad lost his balance and fell face down. We suspect he was not able to breathe and suffocated to death,” said the police.

The incident came to light at around 10 p.m. when a few passers-by found him in the drain and alerted the police control room. The police pulled him out and took him to a hospital where the doctors declared him as brought dead.

“We have taken up a case of unnatural death and are awaiting the post-mortem report,” said a police officer.
