Man arrested for attacking father

The Girinagar police have arrested a habitual offender for allegedly stabbing his father with a motorcycle key after the latter refused to give him money for gambling.

The police have taken up a suo motu case and arrested Santosh, 28, as the victim Rajanna, 60, refused to file a complaint against his son even after he sustained serious injuries.

According to the police, Santosh, who was arrested in a theft case and released on bail recently, was out gambling. He reportedly lost money and promised his friends to get the money from his father. Around 3 a.m. on Sunday, he returned with his friends and woke his father up and demanded money. Rajanna refused to help him and reprimanded Santosh for his behaviour.

Santosh then hit Rajanna on the face with a bike key. Rajanna sustained a deep cut on his face and raised an alarm. Santosh and his friends fled the scene, the police said. Rajanna was taken to a private hospital for treatment and later discharged.

The police, based on the alert from the hospital, went to Rajanna’s house but he refused to file a complaint.

Considering the gravity of the offence, the police took up a suo motu case, tracked Santosh down, arrested him on the charge of assault.

He has been remanded in judicial custody.
