The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday told the BBMP commissioner that making public particulars of property tax payments could help curb evasion or faulty declarations.
Justice L. Narayana Swamy observed that disclosing such details would alert the general public and neighbours to violations.
Making details public would come handy as the BBMP alone will not be able to monitor each and every building, the court said while suggesting that particulars can be published like a telephone directory.
Pointing out that non-payment of tax results in failure to provide basic facilities, the court observed that one should feel that non-payment of property tax is a breach of duty.
