The Karnataka High Court on Friday asked the State government not to leave any stone unturned in ensuring that the remaining 17,000 out-of-school children are back in schools by the new academic year.
A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice D.H. Waghela and Justice Ram Mohan Reddy, asked the authorities to give special attention to the backward taluks and districts where more children remain out of school.
While commending the government’s effort in ensuring that around 1.51 lakh of the 1.68 lakh out-of-school children went back to classrooms in the past 10 months, the Bench said areas like Chittapur in Kalaburagi district, where about 1,225 children are still out of school, should be the focus. The Bench also said special focus to these backward districts was essential in view of Article 371-J of the Constitution.
The Bench asked the government to involve non-governmental and non-profit organisations, besides using corporate social responsibility funds from non-government sectors to achieve the target of zero out-of-school children in the State.
