Lorry owners and members of the All India Motor Transport Congress will go on strike on October 1, against delays caused by toll plazas and collection of TDS from the transport sector.

In a meeting held on Monday, it was decided that the strike would be enforced across the country if the government does not introduce alternative methods of toll collection. “This will save us crores of rupees. There will be a movement across the whole country,” said G.R. Shanmugappa, president of the Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners’ and Agents’ Association. The protesters are also demanding that speed governors on old vehicles should not be made compulsory.
