Executive engineer from PWD, M.N. Krishnamurthy, who was allegedly, demanded a bribe of Rs. One crore by one Krishna Rao, finally gave a written statement to the Lokayukta Police on Wednesday morning identifying Ashwin Rao as Krishna Rao, who he met on May 4 at Lokayukta office. Mr. Krishnamurthy claimed that he identified Ashwin Rao as the man who claimed to be Krishna Rao after local media channels broadcasted the photographs of Ashwin Rao.

Based on Mr. Krishnamurthy’s written statement, Lokayukta police have registered a suo moto case against Ashwin Rao alias Krishna Rao under section 8 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and sections 384, 419, 420, 120(B) of Indian Penal Code.

“There are two opinions regarding the continuation of our probe in light of the High Court stayed the order this afternoon. While, one interpretation is the FIR has been registered as part of the internal probe, which was ordered by Upalokayukta Subhash B. Adi which has been stayed now. Another interpretation is, that the FIR has not been stayed by the High Court and hence we can continue with our probe. We have sought a legal opinion from the legal cell of Lokayukta and we will proceed further based on their opinion,” said Sonia Narang.
