The Karnataka government would initiate the process of selecting the next Lokayukta before the State Budget for 2013-14 is presented, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said on Saturday
Speaking to reporters in Bangalore on the sidelines of a seminar organised by the Indian Institute of Public Administration, he said that the government would follow the guidelines recently issued by the Supreme Court regarding the appointment of the Lokayukta.
The post of the Lokayukta is vacant since the resignation of Shivaraj V. Patil in September 2011. He resigned from the post in the wake of a media expose that showed irregularities in the allotment of two residential plots to him and his wife.
Asked when the Budget for 2013-14 would be presented by the government, Mr. Shettar said that the Cabinet would meet later in the day and decide on the date.
