“Dear principal, all the deputy chief superintendents of CET exam centre are hereby informed not to take PCMB lecturers for CET examination duty. In case science lecturers are taken for the examination, strict action will be taken by the head of the authorities.”
As colleges which were centres for the Common Entrance Test (CET) geared up for the conduct of the exam, this message from the deputy directors of the Department of Pre-University on Monday evening had them stumped.
A lecturer, on condition of anonymity, said in a principals’ meeting held last week, instructions had been issued that centres should “preferably” allot non-science teaching invigilators. But the message sent across on Monday ruled out that possibility.
Another lecturer from a centre in south Bengaluru said, “Since we also have an arts and commerce college under the same management, our principal managed to find and train a few lecturers in the last moment.” But those colleges offering only science courses bore the brunt.
