‘Lane only for BMTC buses, ambulances’

The BMTC will approach the State government to impose a fine on other motorists who use the lane. BMTC Managing Director C. Shikha said: “We will write to the Transport Commissioner on introducing the penalty rule. The State will take a call on the issue.” If the State government approves the proposal, rules will be implemented after the Transport Department comes out with a notification.

In addition to the buses operated by BMTC on the ORR, several companies and tech parks hire transport services or private operators. The BMTC is yet to decide on whether private services will be allowed. Ms. Shikha said: “As of now, only the priority lane will be used by BMTC buses and ambulances. No decision has been taken on allowing other services.”
