Labourer hired by BWSSB dies as mud caves in on him

A labourer died and another sustained injuries when mud caved in on them when they were laying a pipeline for the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) near Bilekahalli on Bannerghatta Road here on Saturday evening.

While Anjaneyalu alias Anji (24), a native of Mehboobnagar, Andhra Pradesh, died,Suresh (19), is being treatedfor his injuries in hospital. The Mico Layout police said the soil dumped on the side caved in when they were working inside the trench.

Suicides

Tension between a couple over pledging the wife’s jewellery ended in her suicide at their home in Sunkadakatteon Saturday.

Pavithra (24) and her husband Purushotham Shetty argued when he expressed his inability to get back her gold jewellery he had pledged to borrow money from a financial institution.

The Kamakshipalya police said Shetty was talking to his mother-in-law over telephone when Pavithra went to her room and hanged herself.

Though she was taken to a hospital, she was declared dead on arrival.

A garment factory employee committed suicide by immolating herself at her house in Naganathapura on Hosur Road on Friday night.

The police said Sangeeta, had been married to Sridhar, a construction worker, for 22 years.

The couple have two grown up children who live in Tamil Nadu.

The reason behind Sangeeta’s suicide is not known. The Parappana Agrahara police, who have registered a case of unnatural death, are on the lookout for Sridhar, who is said to be absconding.

Arrests

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) staff arrested Shivakumar (49) on charges of illegally hoarding and selling domestic and commercial LPG cylinders at exorbitant prices.

The police seized 33 cylinders of Indane, HP and Bharat Gas companies and 29 customers’ passbooks from Kumar, a resident of Hunasamaranahalli on Bellary Road. He supplied gas cylinders to restaurants and marriage halls, the police said.

In another case, Adugodi police have arrested two men from Madhya Pradesh who allegedly tried to sell a fake gold chain to a Hosur Lashkar Road resident and cheated him.

On a complaint, the police arrested Pooran Solanki and Babulal Solanki, both from Ujjain district.
