The JD (S) has demanded immediate stoppage of demolition of illegal constructions on lake beds till the legislature panel headed by Congress MLA K.B. Koliwad submits its report on the extent of encroachments.

JD (S) leader and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy told presspersons on Tuesday that the BDA has developed Dollars Colony at JP Nagar on Linganahalli lake bed in 1997. Residents include over 400 prominent citizens, including BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje, former Public Works Minister C.M. Udasi, retired IAS officer I.M. Vittal Murthy, former MLA Varade Gowda and a Karnataka High Court judge.

“Will the government demolish houses built in the layout,” he asked. Now, the BDA is developing Arkavathi Layout on lake beds of Dasapura and Jakkur. A total of 150 acres of Jakkur and Dasapura lakes had been encroached upon for the layout, he alleged.
