Koushik’s arrest casts light on a larger nexus

He was taken into custody by the CBI for possessing 470 porn videos

The arrest of cab driver Koushik Kounr may just be a tip of the iceberg of what could be an organised porn ring in the city, fear sleuths from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

A careful analysis of the cache of 470 porn videos found with the accused at his upscale apartment in Mahadevapura has shown that many of them were original and have not been uploaded anywhere on the Internet. “We suspect he was involved in the making of some of these videos,” a CBI source said.

The stealth cameras found in his possession has led to strengthening this suspicion, an official said.

CBI sleuths, who have taken Koushik to New Delhi, are investigating to find if he had any associates. They believe that Koushik cannot produce such videos alone and there must be a larger nexus operating in the city.

An analysis of the call detail records (CDR) is expected to reveal more information on his contacts. Sleuths said that as most of the porn videos were recordings by stealth cameras, they cannot rule out the possibility of extortion and blackmail of those caught on tape. CBI officials said a CDR analysis may also reveal if he had tried to contact the victims. The officials will be taking Koushik to Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh to probe into the source of the anonymous video of a woman being gang-raped. The video had first surfaced in Sitapur district. Two youths have already been arrested from Odisha in connection with the case. The CBI is also probing to see if these youths were acquainted with Koushik.

Koushik, a class 12 dropout, worked as a cab driver in the city, but lived in a posh apartment with a monthly rent of Rs. 40,000.
