The former chairperson of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), H.D. Revanna, on Wednesday, alleged that efforts were on to increase the selling price of Nandini milk, and that would affect the financial health of the federation.

Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, Mr. Revanna said the prices were expected to be hiked soon after the elections to Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike on August 22. He claimed that KMF had sent a proposal to the government seeking permission to hike the retail price of milk by about Rs. 4 a litre. Mr. Revanna alleged that any increase in the retail price of Nandini milk would further deteriorate the financial health of KMF as such a measure would help increase the market size of private milk operators.

Mr. Revanna demanded that KMF should allow Hassan and Mysore District Milk Unions that are producing excess milk to sell it in Bengaluru in the open market.

At present, there is a potential for KMF to sell an additional 2 lakh litres of milk in Bengaluru where the private milk operators are supplying about 12 lakh litres a day, he added.
