The city railway police are on the lookout for a 23-year-old man who escaped while in custody of the New Delhi police’s anti-human trafficking unit. The incident took place on Friday while two New Delhi police personnel were escorting him to Vasant Kunj from Bengaluru.
The accused Atif Zameel, who hails from Varanasi, had been booked for kidnapping a woman. He had been tracked down to a house on Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Road in K.G. Halli, said the police. The woman was rescued and Zameel was produced before the 11th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate. A transit warrant was issued so that the police could escort him to New Delhi by train.
On Friday, while they were waiting at the city railway station, Zameel escaped. The city railway police were alerted.
Based on a complaint filed by Inspector Binod Kumar of the Delhi Police, the city police have registered an FIR against Zameel, who has been charged under Section 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) of the Indian Penal Code. "We are coordinating with the jurisdictional police and our New Delhi counterparts to trace Zameel,” a senior police officer said.
