Karnataka MLA’s nephew involved in accident

A nephew of Chickpet MLA D. Hemachandra Sagar was, according to the police, involved in a drunken driving accident in his sports car on the Richmond Road flyover here in the early hours of Sunday.

The Ulsoor Gate Traffic police, who are investigating the case, identified the driver of the car as Rohan Prem Sagar (20), a BBM student in the U.S., and the son of Mr. Hemachandra’s younger brother. The police said that he emerged from the vehicle unscathed.

The police said: “The driver (Rohan) was driving an expensive car at a high speed. He lost control of the vehicle was trying to overtake another vehicle on the Richmond Road flyover. He wanted to avoid an oncoming two-wheeler.” The flyover, where two-way traffic is allowed, had a median in place. When asked, the official said: “We have registered a case based on the sequence of events given by the driver and eyewitnesses (Rohan’s friends).”
