A Division Bench of the Karnataka High Court on Friday held that in view of the dissolution of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, both the State government and the State Election Commission will get an outer limit of six months to hold elections for reconstitution of the BBMP.

The division bench, comprising Chief Justice D.H. Waghela and Justice Ram Mohan Reddy, delivered the verdict while setting aside a single-judge March 30 order for holding elections by May 30.

It has asked the State government and State Election Commission to hold elections to the BBMP complying with the provisions of the Constitution, in view of the Apex Court’s verdicts on this aspect.
