Kalyan Nagar residents’ welfare association president C.M. Subbaiah, against whom Banaswadi police had registered an FIR on April 28 based on a complaint by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) officials, has filed a counter statement refuting the allegations.

Subbaiah had been given a contract by the BDA to set up a Waste Management Committee (WMC) and maintain cleanliness in the area, for which he was given ₹2 lakh per month. The BDA, in its complaint, alleged that Subbaiah collected ₹25 from each house and issued receipts with the BDA seal.

In his counter statement, Subbaiah said the main source of income for RWA and WMC was not only the monthly payment, but also the amount received every month from subscribers in the form of voluntary contributions. The BDA rubber stamp was used for the limited purpose of indicating the address of the Kalyan Nagar RWA, he claimed.

A probe into the case is on.
