This year, 300 police personnel will be on duty at the annual Kadalekai Parishe, which begins on Monday. The fair — the city’s oldest festival — attracts a large number of visitors from across the city. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to install 30 CCTV cameras and 10 watchtowers to ensure the safety and security of visitors.
The parishe will be formally launched at 10 a.m. on Monday and will go on till December 10. All the vendors will set up their stalls around the Bull Temple in Basavanagudi.
Green measures
The organisers have appealed to the public to bring their own bags as plastic covers have been banned. “We request visitors to bring cloth or paper bags. If we see any vendor using plastic, we will seize them,” said one of the organisers.
While groundnuts are the star attraction, vendors will also be selling household items, jewellery and toys. There will be a play areas for children and cultural programmes will be held on Monday and Tuesday at the Bugle Rock Park.
Price of groundnuts goes up
Citizens will find themselves shelling out more money as the price of groundnuts has risen. According to one fo the organisers, the average prices will be between ₹45 and ₹50 for half a kg, compared to around ₹30 last year.
