Jarkiholi may withdraw resignation today

January 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - BENGALURU/BELAGAVI:

Satish L. Jarkiholi, who created a flutter by submitting his resignation as Excise Minister on Tuesday, is likely to withdraw his resignation on Friday, after holding consultations with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, said sources.

A delegation of legislators from Belagavi district, Mr. Jarkhioli’s home district, called on the CM on Thursday, urging him to change his portfolio to enable Mr. Jarkiholi to serve society better. However, Mr. Jarkiholi, who had agreed to meet Mr. Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru, backed out, saying he would not withdraw his resignation.

Sources in the Congress said Mr. Jarkiholi would call on the CM in Bengaluru on Friday, and place his demand for a change in portfolio.

Mr. Jarkiholi said:he doesn’t want to embarrass the party and the government with his actions. “My actions should not damage my party by passing different messages to the public.”

Digvijaya Singh, AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka, will chair a meeting of a coordination panel on Friday and discuss the Jarkiholi issue, sources said.
