Inter-state betting racket busted

Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths, on Monday, busted an inter-state cricket-betting racket following simultaneous raids in three different places, including a club, a gym and a house. The police arrested six persons and recovered Rs. 19 lakh from them.

Based on a tip-off about betting during the Indian Premiere League (IPL) match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, a police team raided SLN Welfare Association in SI Apartment on Sarjapur Road and arrested T. Gajendra. They recovered Rs. 12 lakh and a mobile phone from him. Another team raided RA Fitness Centre, a gym in JP Nagar, and arrested Himanshu, Satish Gowda, Rakesh Prakash and Praveen. They found Rs 5.3 lakh, 21 mobile phones, 20 cheque books and 10 debit cards on them.

During a raid on a house in Nandini Layout, police arrested Girish. They found Rs. 1.7 lakh on him. Preliminary investigations revealed that the men had been collecting money for bookies.
