Homegrown tech-giant, Infosys, has become the first Indian company to join the RE100 renewable energy campaign, a global initiative where companies pledge to use only renewable power.

The induction was announced by The Climate Group, which is coordinating the initiative, on Monday. According to a release, Infosys met 29 percent of its electricity needs through green power in the fiscal year 2015.

The initiative was launched in New York in September 2014 and has already seen global giants, such as IKEA, Swiss Re, Formula E, H&M, Mars, Nestlé, Philips, make a commitment to use only clean energy.

“We are working towards building a clean energy future. Expanding the share of renewables is key to addressing the chronic energy crisis our country is facing today,” said Ramadas Kamath, Executive Vice President and Head of Infrastructure and Sustainability at Infosys.
