Dubbing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) recent call for “Indianising” the education system based on socio-cultural roots of the country as a “regressive move”, the former Union Minister for Commerce Anand Sharma on Monday stressed the need to oppose the development.

At the same time, accusing the RSS of penetrating into various ministries and playing a role in decision making, Mr. Sharma alleged that members in the Modi ministry were not an “independent entity”.

Reacting to a query on alleged phone tapping and surveillance on political leaders and prominent persons, during an interaction with the media, he said he had raised the issue on the floor of the House as “liberty of citizens is at stake”.

‘Boastful claims’

Taking exception to some “boastful claims” of Mr. Modi during recent foreign visits, he alleged that, the Prime Minister confused people within and outside the country. Attacking the NDA government over the Rafale deal, he alleged that as per the earlier agreement, the State-run HAL was to manufacture 108 jets through transfer of technology from the French company.
