Members of State committee of National Federation of Indian women (NFIW) staged a demonstration near the Mysore Bank Circle here on Friday, in connection with the rape and murder of a student in Dharmasthala last year.

Protest

The student from Dakshina Kannada district had been abducted and raped before being murdered by the assailants. Her family has been urging for speedy investigation into the case as the accused had been let off due to alleged influential connections.

A large number of people from NFIW and All India Youth Federation (AIYF) gathered at the circle and staged the symbolic protest for more than one hour.

Investigation

They urged the State government to carry out the investigation in an impartial manner so that justice was ensured to the family.

A member of NFIW said that the investigation report would be submitted next week based on which they will decide the future course of action. The members urged the Home department to ensure that there was no political interference during investigation and to enforce women-friendly laws across the State.
