Unhappy with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for not complying with High Court orders to act against illegal commercial establishments in Indiranagar, I Change Indiranagar — the federation of residents welfare associations of Indiranagar, Defence Colony, BM Kaval and HAL — has approached the Lokayukta.

In a complaint filed on August 30, the federation has said that as per the master plan, the area is purely residential in nature, but the BBMP was allowing commercial activity to go on unchecked in violation of zoning regulations. The group has submitted the two High Court orders passed in its favour, copies of multiple representations given to the BBMP and also a list of commercial establishments operating without a trade licence along with the complaint.

In their plea, the federation has asked the Lokayukta to take action against officials of the BBMP, including Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad, Joint Commissioner East Dr. Ashok, Health Officer East, for dereliction of duty.

“There are two High Court orders in our favour, but nothing has been implemented. Repeated complaints to the BBMP have fallen on deaf ears. Someone has to be held accountable. We had no option other than to approach the Lokayukta,” said Rajesh Dangi, member, I Change Indiranagar.
