Taxmen have threatened to strike work from August 1. They will not take part in any search, survey and seizure operations if their demands are not met. In a press statement issued by the Joint Council of Action (JCA) that includes Income Tax Gazetted Officers Association and Income Tax Employees Federation, which represents 97% of the workforce, they plan to start their agitation by boycotting Income Tax Day celebrations on July 24.

Their demands include providing workers with basic amenities, such as sufficient office space and other infrastructure, an improvement to I-T Business Application Software System, providing better services to tax-payers. They have complained of stagnation in the ranks owing to lack of timely promotions.
