‘I had brought my photo identity cards and clearly my thumb isn’t inked’

August 22, 2015 06:06 pm | Updated March 29, 2016 04:50 pm IST - Bengaluru:

Around noon, after verifying his name was in the list, M. Sukumar from Moodalapalya (Govindaraj Nagar constituency) walked into the booth in the hope of electing the candidate of his choice. To his shock, the polling officer said he had already cast his vote. “I had brought my photo identity cards and clearly my thumb isn’t inked,” he said.

The issue of bogus voters and bogus voting surfaced in the elections held on Saturday. At Jakkur and Nayakanagara Polling booths, nearly 180 bogus voters were found in the electoral list, according to election officials.

Four persons from Andhra Pradesh, who were found lurking around the polling booth at Bommanahalli ward were detained by the H.S.R. Layout police after party workers suspected them of being bogus voters.

State Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, who cast his vote in Byatrayanapura, claimed 6,000 bogus votes were created by an opposing political party with the collusion of revenue officials in the Jakkur ward itself.
