After a wait of five years, students of National School of Drama (NSD), Bengaluru Chapter, will get hostel facility. Noted theatre and film personalities M.S. Sathyu and B. Jayashree will inaugurate the facility at NSD Centre in Kalagrama Mallattahalli on Sunday.
According to C. Basavalingaiah, Bengaluru Centre of NSD is the first one to extend hostel facility for students and he thank theatre personality B. Jayashree and NSD-New Delhi for helping develop the facility.
“A total amount of ₹3.20 crore has been spent on construction of hostel. B. Jayashree had released ₹2 crore from her Member of Parliament fund for the hostel building. The rest came from NSD,” said Mr Basavalingaiah.
To mark the occasion, NSD will stage Kusumabale , directed by Basavalingaiah, on January 12 and 13.
NSD Bengaluru chapter had shifted to Mallattahalli after being evicted from Guru Nanak Bhavan last year. It has resumed operations with the support of the Kannada and Culture Department, which allowed students to stay in Bhasha Bharati Building.
At present, NSD is functioning with three open-air theatres, and one studio at Kalagrama. So far, 80 students from the southern part of the country have graduated from NSD Bengaluru.
