Horticulture officer suspended

June 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - Bengaluru:

A horticulture officer was suspended and another relieved from his deputation to BBMP following dereliction of duty coming to light during an inspection by city in-charge minister R. Ramalinga Reddy on Thursday.

During an inspection of Tavarekere Park on Wednesday, Mr. Reddy found around 15 temporary sheds in the park, encroaching on the public space from the past many years. Officials had not taken any action against the encroachers and prima facie found that they were colluding with the encroachers, a formal press release said.

Also the officials were to employ three security guards to work round-the-clock in three shifts. However, there were only two guards at the park.

BBMP Administrator T M Vijay Bhaskar suspended BBMP horticulture supervisor Venkatesh. He also ordered that Horticulture inspector Shankaramurthy be relieved of his service from BBMP and recommended disciplinary action against the officer to his parent department.
