Holiday for 134 Bengaluru schools on leopard rumours

February 11, 2016 07:46 am | Updated November 17, 2021 02:09 am IST - Bengaluru:

Whether or not elusive ‘leopards’ are prowling in Whitefield, what was for sure was that Wednesday was a field day in the sun for students in the area.

With rumours of leopard sightings doing the rounds three days after a dramatic operation to rescue a spotted feline from a school in Varthur, the Education Department declared a holiday on Wednesday for at least 60 schools in the area.

By the end of the day, the number of schools that declared a holiday (on Thursday) had gone up to 134.

The Forest Department too is taking no chances. A contingent of 40 officials, apart from the local police, is in ‘search’ of clues to affirm the presence of leopards. Though no such confirmation was received, officials placed two cages with baits in ‘sensitive’ areas from where calls of leopard sightings had picked up steam since Sunday.
