Hindustani music festival


Pandit Taranath Foundation is all set to host a four-day music festival ‘Impu’ at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Bengaluru (on February 6 and 7) and at Lokamanya Ranamandira in Belagavi (March 5 and 6).

Talented artistes from across the country (half of them from Karnataka) will be featured over the four days. The Bengaluru leg will begin with a vocal concert by Indhudhara Nirodi and sitar recital by Ustad Shahid Parvez. The second day’s programme features sitar recital by Sandhya Apte and vocal by M.Venkatesh Kumar at 9.30 a.m., and sarod recital by Pandit Narendranath Dhar and vocal concert by Pandit Ajay Chakravarthy at 6 p.m.

In Belagavi, it will begin with a vocal recital by Ustad Faiyaz Khan and sarod recital by Pandit Rajeev Taranath on March 5. There will be a tabla solo by Pandit Yogesh Samsil, vocal concert by Pandit Parameshwara Hegde, violin recital by N. Rajam and vocal by Kedas Bodus.

Entry is free. At the announcement of the festival on Tuesday, the foundation’s managing trustee, Rajeev Taranath, told reporters that music is very relevant to “our chaotic and opaque times with its power to clarify and to create a hunger for perfection”.
