High fees to continue

June 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - BENGALURU:

Despite promises made to curb fees of private school managements from this academic year, the Department of Public Instruction has failed to keep up its promise, forcing parents to shell out hefty fees. The DPI’s fee structure proposal had received criticism and over 7,000 objections, but the department has still not formed a fee structure policy. The revised draft pegs the pre-primary class fee at Rs. 16,704, pre-primary class fee at Rs. 7,611 and high school fee at Rs. 15,184, development fee at Rs. 2,000 (primary) and Rs. 10,000 (high school) and non-teaching fee at Rs. 360 for primary classes and high school fee at Rs. 800. This however has not been finalised. Meanwhile, many schools are charging fees running into lakhs.
