High Court disposes of Dhoni’s plea

Cricketer M.S. Dhoni on Monday told the Karnataka High Court that he had neither posed nor received any remuneration or goodwill amount in connection with an article published in a business magazine, which depicted him as Lord Vishnu holding a sneaker among other products in his hands.

An affidavit was filed during the hearing of a petition filed by Mr. Dhoni questioning criminal proceedings initiated against him by a city court based on a private complaint, filed in 2013, which had alleged that the cover page depiction had hurt religious sentiments.

Justice A.N. Venugopala Gowda, who heard the petition, had disposed of Mr. Dhoni’s petition asking him to approach the city court as there is a provision in the law to seek revision of the cognisance taken by the court based on the private complaint.

Meanwhile, the High Court has also exempted Mr. Dhoni’s personal appearance before the city court granting him time till September 4 for seeking revision.
