Byrathi village where the alleged incident occurred turned into a fortress on Tuesday following the attack on Monday night.

The issue gathered steam only by Tuesday evening when the victims turned up at the police station to lodge a complaint.

This was followed by senior police officials rushing to the Kothanur police station.

More than 100 police officials camped in the area and patrolling was intensified. Over 20 Hoysala and Cheetah police patrol vehicles were deployed.

At least 10 inspectors and Assistant Commissioners of Police, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) Vikas Kumar Vikas, and Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar, were overseeing security measures in the area.
