Head constable assaulted in police station

He was in the midst of an inquiry

The Indiranagar police arrested a 35-year-old man who allegedly slapped, manhandled and abused a head constable inside the police station during an inquiry on Monday.

The accused, Prasanna M., had filed a complaint that his wife Lakshmi is being harassed by autorickshaw driver Jagadish.

Lakshmi was working as a house keeping staff in a private firm. Prasanna alleged that Jagadish was harassing Lakshmi frequently demanding ₹5,000 which she owed him for using his autorickshaw to and from work.

Based on the complaint, Head Constable Chandrakanth Kanmeshwar, 29, summoned both parties for questioning. While he questioned Jagadish, Prassana, who was not convinced with his replies, became aggressive and allegedly attacked Jagadish, the police said. When Kanmeshwar intervened, Prasanna allegedly slapped, assaulted and abused the policeman.

Other policemen rushed to the aid of Kanmeshwar and pinned down Prasanna.

The police have charged Prasanna for assault on a public servant and remanded him in judicial custody.
