HDMC seeks Rs. 500 cr. to mark golden jubilee

Corporation proposes to take up development works

July 15, 2012 09:01 am | Updated 09:01 am IST - HUBLI:

To mark the golden jubilee year of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC), the civic body is preparing an action plan seeking grants of up to Rs. 500 crore for various development projects.

Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, Mayor Pandurang Patil said there was precedent for their request. “When HDMC celebrated its silver jubilee, the then Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde sanctioned special grants for development work to mark the occasion,” he said.

Dr. Patil said officials had been given a fortnight to chalk out the action plan, which is expected to be ready by the month-end.

Projects

One of the major proposals is the development of a park on 120 acres near Navalur, similar to Cubbon Park in Bangalore.

“The action plan will focus on interior areas and undeveloped zones, where roads and drains will be developed. [There will also be focus on] projects required for the whole city, such as development of storm water drains, bus shelters and markets,” he said.
